Yes...I'm on YouTube. Why I started my channel...and some tips.

Yeah, I did it.
I started my own YouTube channel!
But let me explain the reason WHY I started it.
I was apprehensive at first, since I really don't like the idea of being on the internet.
Then, after a ton of research, and entering this new foreign world of e-commerce, I realized that it would benefit my business in the long-run.
In this world where people are unsure if there is an actually human running the business, if it's AI, or a genuine American run small business....I decided to pull the trigger.
With one caveat....I chat about subjects that interest me.
If you've looked through my website, you can obviously tell that I'm a true crime junkie. I binge watch documentaries, read about it, and listen to podcasts. You might think I'm a ghoul (I kinda am). Other than the investigation that occurs, my main root of interest regarding most cases is the psychology behind it. I've delved into the rabbit hole of reading about psychopathy, emotional intelligence, and dark psychology. When you mesh the two subjects, analyzing the parallels really switch up the perspective of these incidents.
So you're probably wondering: "Jess, what's the point of this?"
My husband had brought up the idea months ago of starting my own podcast. That's still kind of in the works, but I decided to combine my two worlds in video form. In 2025, small businesses can be overlooked in this oversaturated market. So I decided to put myself out there to represent my brand.
Most of my videos I will be discussing not just the particularities of serial killers or infamous crime cases, but the possible psychological indicators that may influence the perpetrators' actions. While discussing these subjects, I'll probably be working on a project or packing an order.
It won't be true crime ALL THE TIME. There will be some content of my journey of figuring out all the countless issues that occur running a small business (because it never ends!). Gotta break it up every once in a while.
If you're a small business that's mainly based online, I highly encourage you look into it AND start it. Here are some tips:
- Do your research on how YouTube works. It's quite different from other social media platforms. BUT, the lifetime of your content lasts way longer (pretty much forever).
- Plan out a script, and write it out. Don't wing it. Have a game plan on what to talk about and how to convey your message.
- You don't have to go broke editing or spend a ton of cash on programs. I pretty much film everything on my phone.
I'm not a pro, I'm pretty much a baby YouTuber. I'm pretty sure my video isn't up to standards with what others expect, but I'm trying! It's a learning curve, but it's worth a shot.
